Initially, Bismarck dismissed colonization as unnecessary and did so for a protracted period of time. He expanded and colonized as circumstances changed and there was more internal pressure to do so. According to Bismarck, they would need it for elections, therefore they started conquering Africa. Friedrich Fabri was a strong proponent of expansion as well as the dissemination of German culture (Cokić, 2020). Fabri defended colonization in a manner reminiscent to Bismarck's.
