This assignment requires you to discuss changes in public health philosophy, principles and practice in Australia from the mid-1800s to the present day.
The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate you can achieve the following Unit Learning Outcomes:
• Discuss in detail the nature and scope of public health, including attention to current challenges
• Explain the general organisation of public health services, with specific attention to the Australian situation
• Discuss in detail the nature and scope of public health, including attention to current challenges
INSTRUCTIONS
1. You are required to write 4 short answers (250 words each) in response to the following questions:
a. How have Public Health understandings about the causes of illness changed from the mid-1800s to the present day? (n.b. explain the dominant beliefs and theories. Provide examples to demonstrate your understanding).
b. In what ways have Public Health principles and approaches changed during this period of time? (n.b. explain in particular how Public Health theories and understanding of health and illness have influenced these principles and approaches. Provide examples to illustrate your answer).
c. What have been the changes in the major health issues affecting the Australian population over this period (mid-1800s to the present)? Provide an explanation for why these changes have occurred.
d. How is the Australian Public Health system organised, and what are the functions of the Public Health system in Australia? (n.b. outline the key organisations and stakeholders and provide examples of their main roles).
2. Do not exceed 1000 words. A minimum of 10 different academic references (in total) is required to support your answers
