e or due to rising levels of pollutants, but after all, it

the world. Though, pharmaceutical companies are trying their best to invent novel and effective
drugs, but the major complication arises when such drugs are protected by patents.
In fact, there are several unethical practices which are usually adopted by pharmaceutical
companies to increase their business for example; hiring of ghost writers who could present such
articles in journals which can be called constructive for them, manipulation of study designs so
that, favorable results could be produced, hiding fault-finding outcomes, promoting the
application of off-label drugs, offering rewards to health care personnel for recommendations of
their products, and threatening researchers whose conclusions could prove to be harmful for their
business interests. Out of these, prevention of release of generic drugs (up to a significant time
period) with the assistance of patents can be termed as a matter of key concern these days
(Barral, 1996).
Though, this kind of activities may be called legal, but not ethical as; these can harm such
persons who are struggling to pay for several prescription medicines on a preset income. As said
by experts, such kind of patents lead towards disjunction between prosperity of medicine
companies, and the enormous health requirements of public or in other words, between a
revenue-searching commercial culture and communal liability (Bassand et al., 2002).
According to ethicists, pharmaceuticals must give emphasis over the benefits of all stake
holders including patients, but these usually try to earn their own profits rather than serving
