Is the United States part of the problem or the solution? How should U.S. Global Health
Policy be strengthened to improve these global health issues?
Overweight/ Obesity might be termed as one out of the major challenges faced by the
governments throughout the world. In consequence of the alarming speed of occurrence of this
abnormality over past 20 years, WHO calls it as 'global epidemic'.
According to researchers, USA could also not save itself from this plague and as per the
enhancement in frequency of this complication it appears that up to 2025 approximately 50%
citizens of USA would lie in the category of „obese‟. Therefore; at present, USA can be
considered as part of the problem (Mokdad et al., 1999).
But, like „two sides of coin‟, one positive point in this context is that US government and
non-government organizations are quite aware about the issue and are trying to introduce an
effective strategy against the same. As said by US health experts, there is need to design an
improved Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health which should have following
objectives:
