1. Brief vision and value statements
The Princeton County also called Princeton-
Mercer County is a capital county of New
Jersey. Center for commerce and culture in the
Garden State. This county was officially founded
in 1938 and has a historical impact of the
American Revolutionary War.
In honor of General Hugh Mercer, Mercer
County is named. Hugh Mercer is a
revolutionist, distinguished hero of the
Revolutionary war, who died from wounds
inflicted during the Battle of Princeton in 1777.
The Regional Planning Board of Princeton
makes Master plan policy for 5 years and modifies the plan in every five years.
Master plan strategy of 1996 to 2001:
Land use goal:
To recommend the proper and balance land use in future to accommodate present and future
needs.
Housing goal:
This goal intended to provide affordable housing and preservation of existing neighborhoods.
Circulation goal:
The circulation plans are aimed to improve and facilitate transport of people in Princeton and to
service the kind of development which the master plan encourages. There are several traffic
plans are established to improve and to rise the capacity of transportation facilities on the town.
There are several divisions within this section including Regional traffic distribution, Regional
traffic coordination, intra and interstate traffic goal, public transit goal, specialized transit goal
etc.
Utility service goal:
The Utility Element service plans provide adequate infrastructure that can mitigate needs of the
Princeton community without adversely affecting the environment or quality of life in Princeton.
The waste disposal area can be expanded following the guideline and demand and considering
the environmental aspect.
Community facilities goal:
Comprehensive system of municipal services include emergency services, public utilities, police
and fire protection, public school system ,public health, the public library, public school system
and cultural and recreational facilities. These facilities are planed to serve the reqirements of all-
person ameliorating their quality of life.
Recreation and open space goal:
In Princeton Township there are several parks, lakes, open space, play ground are made for
recreation of child, teenage , adult and also for aged people.
Historic preservation goal:
This goal encourages and promotes the preservation and enhancement of structures and areas of
historic buildings, paces. And also promote the conservation of aesthetic, cultural, social,
economic values and architectural history of Princeton.
Conservation goal:
The Conservation Element goals intend for the conservation, proper use and management of
natural and visual amenities Princeton which include critical environmental features, resources
with exceptional community value, and special environmental areas.

In Princeton there are several tightly-hold rules and guiding principles in aspect of land use,
housing etc. The Planning Board has stated some distinct community values:
Character and quality of community life:
People of community should maintain a balance of uses resources to improve the socio-
economic lines enabling all people to work and live together within the same community
diversity.
New development is acceptable when it is compatible with neighboring uses and
minimizes and buffers its impact on adjacent uses and improves quality of residential life.
Outside of the downtown, the rural and scenic character must be retained by developing
proper maintenance like cleaning, road repairing, and maintaining green environment.
The neighboring communities should discuss with community board on changes in land
use, open space preservation, roadway improvements,.
New residential construction planning should follow the traditional guideline and
traditional street layouts model , plantation, proper size of house, and should offer the
neighbor of some visual diversity etc.
Historical, ancient sites, buildings, landscapes, and structures of the Princeton community
should be maintained and preserved.
The main goal of community is to advancing the technology to render more comfort to
the people.
Transportation:
The Community Transportation Coordination has created an integrated and coordinated
transit system to:
Enhance ridership reducing the dependence on motor vehicles.
Improve connections between existing transit reducing redundant services.
Provide timely and scheduled services to underserved population centers.
Support community businesses for development of communication and marketing plan.
Enhance the flexibility of potential Bus Rapid Transit and NJ Transit service.
