“The imposition of colonialism on Africa significantly altered its political, social and economic history. With this in mind reflect on the legacy of colonialism in one of Africa’s countries of your choice. Pay particular attention to how colonialism has affected the process of state formation and nation building.”

Introduction
Colonizatio
n in the various parts of the world has diverse effects over the native population. In fact, the colonists, either French or British, left behind a legacy of their own, which was specifically guided by the principle of developing the social, cultural and economic values of the nation (Shumway and Getz).
In African context, the process of colonization has multiple dimensions of effects. There were variations in ruling, as per the evolution of the European societies, which resulted in the efficacy of trade and commerce development. Referring to Ghana in particular, the nation has taken up the colonial legacy sensibly after the independence.
The focus of the democratic government established after the annexation of Ghana as individual African nation is over giving social stability, alleviation of basic cultural values as well as sustaining the economic resources of the nation positively.
Stabilization of Social and Educational Values in Post-Independence Era
At first, it is significant to note here that the basic principles of development are applicable over Ghana in the context of its social development in the post colonization period. The first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah, is given all the credits of this social growth of society of Ghana. His orientation was over strengthening the human resources from within the community.
In fact, the initial phase of post-independence displays Ghana as a nation, which was free from colonization rule. However, it lacked the capacity of human resources to be applied to its economical context (Shumway and Getz). This was one of the major barriers to develop the nation as a free African state.
The government of Nkrumah focused mainly over developing a critical group of skilled labors that were able to sustain the social values. This group of people came upfront and received general recognition of local leaders. These people worked under Nkrumah’s presidency and they carried out the process of awakening local communities about vitalizing their cultural norms from a brand new perspective.
Secondly, without having proper educational standards applied to national context, the growth of any nation is simply impracticable to imagine. Before colonization ended, the impression over the societies of Ghana was to obtain the European standard education, which was available to only a few people in society.
