After going through the report as presented by Jonathan and Fast Prescott C. Ensign on Ricoh Canada Inc, one can develop an understanding on the company and the issues related with the company. Ricoh American Corporation of Toronto, is the holding company for Ricoh Canada Inc and a Japanese company, Ricoh Company Ltd is the holding company of Ricoh American Corporation of Toronto. In the industry of digital imaging and document management, Ricoh Company Ltd was one of the biggest companies at international level. Currently, the company has around 109,000 employees spread all across 200 countries, where the company continues its business operation.
The main trading activities of the company is maintaining and delivering printing and copying machines to the customers but currently it was experiencing saturation in those areas for quite some time (Graham and Stork, Ricoh Co Ltd, 2008). Other companies which were providing similar goods and services were Canon and Xerox and so they emerged as strong competitors for the company. Facing such stiff competition, the company was considering entering into other areas of services which can vary from cloud computing, remote monitoring, or any other innovations. Investment is necessary for a new innovation. But the company’s CEO was unsure if the investment would add any value to the company. He was also confused regarding the fact that if investments were to be made then on which innovative services that would be made.
As per the research there are three on-going market trends which are: change in technology, corporate behavior and user behavior. mobile, tablet and cloud storage and the discoveries of similar new technologies, need for printing is being reduced. So ultimately the demand of the current products of the company continued to fall. By 2012, the growth of the company was only 2%. The forecast suggested that there was further chance of fall in the consecutive years. The company was left with two choices either to change or to be extinct. Only a few companies were left in the industry since most of the companies present in the market were taking part in acquisition and mergers. The main motive was to reduce competition.
