1. Abstract

borative efforts are needed in order to drive organizational success and growth; therefore, new ideas and approaches are mandate in order to sustain the growth. ICF allows organizations to be flexible and adaptable to various possible futures. Six thinking hats is one such ICF method, which can provide with multiple thinking approaches or perspectives driving innovation and creativity. This paper will discuss ‘six thinking hats’ as the chosen ICF method. Further, efforts will be made to reflect upon background information, history, advantages as well as limitations of this method. Likewise, a practical example will be discussed where the selected approach proved successful and the paper will end with a brief summary including the key insights from this paper.
2. Background
Innovation, creativity and foresight (ICF)are undoubtedly the three pillars of organisation’s success in global market. It would be essential to consider that foresight (power of strategic planning) is necessary during discontinuous change. Therefore, planning for the future of an organisation requires innovation and creativity. Moreover, foresight might feed into the process of innovation concerning various levels of growth. Likewise, it would be essential to consider that organisational foresight imparts a positive impact concerning innovation (Grimus, 2020).
‘Six thinking hats’ is one such ICF approach, which was created by Dr. Edward de Bono. De Bono used this approach first during his work advising government agencies; however, later he published this approach as a practical tool for solving everyday problems. This method is based upon the consideration that, human brain thinks in numerous directions, which can be deliberately challenged. Therefore, such strategy can be used in a structured way to develop tactics about certain issues (Aithal, Kumar& Shailashree 2016).
‘Six thinking hats’ identifies six distinct directions in, which the brain can be challenged and coloured hats are used as a metaphor for each direction.
