This assessment requires that students produce a clear and concise outline for a research project to address a significant public health problem. It supports students to develop  research and project management skills, by enabling them to clearly identify a research  issue and commit to a plan early in the subject, which they will follow for their subsequent  research presentation and grant application assessments. The project outline requires  understanding of a significant public health issue, and furthermore, comprehension of how  to construct research questions to generate further knowledge in this area. It also requires  effective communication skills to produce an outline for a research project in a brief  document. Being able to prepare short, concise summaries for ‘real world’ tasks, such as  grant applications and research proposals, before developing them in greater detail, is a  significant skill for public health professionals.     Instructions:  Students must submit a 1‐2 page outline of a research project for which they wish to  theoretically apply for funding in a grant application (Assessment 3). The research project  must address a significant public health problem that relates to one of the nine NHPAs  (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare [AIHW], 2016). It must also relate to at least one  of the following areas: health care/services, health policy or the determinants of  health/health inequities.

The outline should conform to the template below, and contain the following headings.  (Information provided below each heading is to assist you in preparing your outline.)      Research topic/title (10‐20 words)   An initial working title should be provided and should describe the focus/content of your  project.     Background (150 words)   What is already known? What do we need to know? Provide a brief overview of key  information that is already known to set the context for your project.     Aims and Research Questions (150 words)  Describe your aims for this project. What do you want to know, demonstrate, analyse,  investigate or examine? List your research questions in a logical fashion.    Significance (150 words)   Why is this issue important? Highlight why it is worth pursuing, in terms of its originality and  benefits to health and/or innovation.
