Journey of Emotions during this Semester
A human is human when it shows emotions. Emotions differentiates humans from the lifeless machinery. Our expression of emotions is a proof of what we feel about the situation. Every day, we all go through series of emotions depending upon the situation. We feel happy while watching the rising sun, felt sad when late for work or feel angry when our work is not done. It is not as if we feel one emotion at a time we can feel more than one emotion at a time.
For example, when we lost someone close, we feel angry, frustrated, helpless and sad at a time. Human brain is complex in nature; similarly, we are complex in expressing emotions. We have complexity of showing combination of emotions in a situation. As suggested by Pintar Breen, Tamis-LeMonda, and Kahana-Kalman (2018), emotions can be defined as the feelings, which an individual experienced in the situation. There are many kinds of emotions, which an individual experienced.
Anger, happiness, sadness, fear, surprise and disgust are the six basic emotions, which are very frequent in our life. Experiencing of emotions work very uniquely in every individual’s life. As suggested by Symington (2018), expressing the type of emotion in a situation varies from person to person. For example, the first reaction to listening to the news of death of closed ones can be varied, some feel sad, some feel anger and some feel frustrated.
This semester, I got the chance to observe the emotions and its functionality. How one can experience emotion, it can be done either by observing others or experience at their own. I had focused on the two very common emotions this semester to observe, analyze and understand. These two emotions were anger and happiness. I record the situations when I had observed anger or happiness in a situation.
I had observed people surrounding me and myself to relate impact of the emotions on others. The results I had come across was very remarkable. It had never come occurred to me, how emotions of others can influence us. As suggested by Ekman (2016), anger and happiness are the two strongest emotions, which humans observed. Both these emotions can influence others and trigger the emotions of others irrespective of them to be participants in the situation.
For example, one day when I was sitting at the home, I observed anger in my sister. She asked my nephew to turn off the video, which he was watching on his iPad for past half an hour. Despite of my sister asking him to close the video several times, he refused to notice and keep watching. This makes my sister full of anger; she with anger came to my nephew and snatched the iPad away from him.
When I saw her full of anger, my heartbeat raised high. She might be right being angry on his son but she can use the other approach also to handle the situation. Instead of getting angry on her son, she could have calmly made him understand about the behavior. Although, I was highly affected by her anger and all my thoughts are vanished from my mind, yet I choose to remain calm and away from the situation.
Similarly, happiness also made strong appearance in the surrounding despite the reason for...
