This assessment involves analysing one specific health promotion initiative against best practice. you need to choose an Environmental Health Promotion initiative You are asked to use this initiative to explain and critically reflect on: the strategy, and best practice in Health Promotion. Imagine that people with an interest in health promotion but with limited knowledge and experience are reading your work to get ideas of which strategies they might adopt themselves in their own work, and how they might go about doing best practice in HP.   You will need to also refer to 1. Schulz, A., Northridge, M. (2004). Social determinants of health: Implications for environmental health promotion. Health Education & Behaviour, 31 (4), 455-471. 2. Parkes, M., Panelli, R. & Weinstein, P. (2003) Converging Paradigms for Environmental Health Theory and Practice, Environmental Health Perspectives, 111 (5), 669-675. 3. Parker, E., Baldwin, G., Israel, B., & Salinas, M. (2004). Application of health promotion theories and models for environmental health. Health Education & Behaviour, 31 (4), 491- 509. and at least 5 external references identified through your own research about the strategy and initiative. Steps to guide your paper development Do your own research and identify one initiative that you will use to illustrate the general strategy, Environmental Health Promotion. Do a search of printed or electronic journals and publicly available project documents to learn more about the initiative, and the context in which it is implemented.   Use the above readings and other supporting literature to describe the strategy and to critically analyse the initiative illustrating the application of the strategy in the light of best practice principles in HP, taking account of the context in which it is being implemented.   Analyse the initiative against best process with support from additional literature by addressing the 4 points (below) about the health promotion strategy this initiative illustrates and about the initiative itself. There is a strict word limit of 500 words for each answer. List references at the end of the paper, this reference list is not included in the word limit. All other text is included in the word limit. (Please note, the word limit is 2000, equally, 500 means 500). Questions All papers are to be presented as 4 answers to 4 questions. The questions are: Explain the main characteristics [Environmental health promotion] …., including the its conceptual underpinnings and the values and assumptions, which inform it. (Note, this is about the general strategy, environmental health promotion, not the specific initiative).  Critically analyse how … [the example initiative you have chosen] illustrates the health promotion strategy in action; focus on the extent to which the specific initiative illustrates the conceptual underpinnings, values and assumptions of the general strategy.  Address how this initiative applies health promotion principles in planning and evaluation. If these do not appear evident in the paper, or are not addressed, provide suggestion as to what framework[s] might be appropriate; support your analysis with reference from the literature and course content. Critically analyse how this specific initiative’s design or implementation (choose one) reflects significant elements of the Ottawa Charter including how it responds to the specificities of the context in which it is operating (e.g. high/middle/low income country) or target group (e.g. hard to reach disadvantaged population); multi-sectoral action and multi-strategic approach. Use these 4 headings (they are included in the word limit): The ‘generic’ strategy An example of the strategy in action Best practice I: Planning, evaluation, context Best Practice II: Ottawa Charter in action
