Think about your own academic experience. What issues do you remember that were specific to each level? (elementary, middle, high)? What value do you see in having support from a school counselor during these experiences?

1. Mr. Starr is a high school counselor. One of his students comes to him and tells him that she thinks her friend is pregnant. When he confronts the student, she begins to cry but does not admit that she is pregnant. Mr. Starr knows that the school district has a Board policy regarding confidentiality and student sexual activity (i.e., the counselor is supposed to call the parent or guardian). The student has admitted nothing but is visibly upset by whatever is going on.

2. What should Mr. Starr do?

3. What ethical issues are evident in this case?
