Think about clinical decision making as a process of making choices. Sometimes the choices we make in our personal and professional lives are small with limited consequences. Sometimes they are major with potentially very significant consequences to the quality and even continuity of our lives and the lives of others. The importance of considering carefully a range of factors that can influence such choices is generally much greater in the latter case.
