These flows are expected to be $550 billion in 2013 globally and $700 billion by 2016.5 The majority of this goes to the developing countries ($414 billion in 2013). These are important flows for developing countries as they are significantly bigger than official development aid, bigger than capital flows and bigger than FDI flows in some countries, and the weakening of the emerging nations will only serve to increase their importance.
