Thermistors are devices composed of mixtures of transition metal oxides. Because their resistivity changes in a thermally activated way like semiconductors, they are used to sense temperature. For such a thermistor the resistivity at 100 K is 101° ~-m; at 500 K the resistivity is 10 f~-m.
a. Suggest a formula that describes the resistivity as a function of temperature.
b. It is desired to use this device to sense changes in temperature in the vicinity of 30°C. What is the smallest temperature change that can be detected if the resistance can be measured to 0.01% ?
