There will be three (3) online quizzes on topics 1 - 10. The online quizzes must be attempted by the students individually using the “Test Centre” in the Interact site for ITC513. Each Quiz weighs 3%, thus in total, the online quizzes worth 9% of the subject grade. Students need to attempt and finish the online quizzes within specific time windows, which will be notified by the Subject Coordinator.
The topics of the online quizzes are:
- Online Quiz 1: Topics 1 and 2
- Online Quiz 2: Topics 3 and 4
- Online Quiz 3: Topics 7 to 10
Rationale
back to topThis assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:
- be able to critically analyse wireless networking concepts and their applications in real life situations.
The online quizzes are designed to increase students' timely engagements with the subjects. Especially, the first online quiz will be used to identify disengaged students.
The online quizzes are also designed to allow students to test and demonstrate their ability to understand the topics.
Marking criteria and standards
back to topOnline Quiz 1 will involve multiple choice or true/false type questions, although quizzes may include other contents. Marks will be given based on the correctness of the answers. The Test Centre will be marking automatically and you will receive marks according to the following criteria:
- HD - At least 85% answers were correct
- DI - At least 75% answers were correct
- CR - At least 65% answers were correct
- PS - At least 50% answers were correct
- FL - Less than 50% answer were correct

Return Date:20-May-2019
Submission method options:Alternative submission method
Task
back to topQuestion 1:
With the help of diagram/s explain the concept of cell splitting.(3 marks)
Question2:
A new wireless service provide decided to employ acluster of 12 Cellsas the basic module of frequency reuse.
- Find reuse distance if the radius of each is cell is 2km (2 marks)
- If each channel is multiplexed among eight (8) users how many calls can be simultaneously processed by each cell if only 10 channels per cell are reserved for control, assuming a total bandwidth of 30 MHz is available and each simplex channels consist of 25 kHz. (3 marks)
- If each user keeps the traffic channel busy for an average of 5% time and an average of 60 requests per hour are generated, what is the Erlang value? (3 marks)
Question 3:
- You are working as Network Design Engineer with local service provider and your manager has asked you to propose the design for the below cellular architecture shown in figure 1. In your design provide the following information; Base station sites locations, Antenna specification, mention the area type considering the cell size (suburban, urban, rural etc) and justify you design. (8 marks)
- The figure 1 below shows a cellular architecture. Is there some specific reason why it could have designed this way? (4 marks)
Figure 1: Cellular Architecture
Rationale
back to topThis assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:

Q1 and Q2
|
The answer is correct, and complete. Comprehensive explanation is provided Appropriate figures were used, if applicable. Calculation is correct for all the three parts and all the steps are shown. Appropriate reference style is used. No grammatical or spelling mistake.
|
The answer is correct and a detailed explanation is provided. References are used. No/only a few grammatical or spelling mistakes. Calculation steps for all the three parts are correct however for one of the part answer/some calculations are wrong.
|
The answer is correct, but the explanation is not complete. Very few references are used and not formatted appropriately.
Student approach is correct for all the three parts however there are mistakes in calculation and answer for two part is wrong.
|
The answer is correct but not complete and only adequate explanation is provided. No references are used. There are grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.
Calculations approach is correct however all the parts have calculation mistakes.
|
The answer is wrong. Calculation is wrong.
|
Question 3
|
The proposed design is accurate, and justification provided is also excellent. Referencing and citation is done as per APA style and there is no grammatical mistake.
|
The proposed design and justification is good. Referencing and citation is appropriately done (APA) with few grammatical mistakes.
|
The proposed design is justification is satisfactory and referencing and citation is also done but not formatted properly.
|
The proposed design and justification is acceptable. No referencing is done and there are grammatical and spelling mistakes.
|
The proposed design is wrong and justification does not make any sense.
