Literature Review
To pursue the understanding of the findings of the article it is important to understand the concept the article is based on. Firstly, it the culture that will be defined here. Cross and Bhugra, (2009) explains it as the way a group of people think, react, feel in to their day to day affairs. The impact of this culture is found in the working style of the individual. The culture is developed by the environment one lives in and the upbringing the individual has received. The difference in the upbringing and the environment can be easily observed in the way a person behaves personally or professionally (Cross and Bhugra, 2009). when taken in the terms of business and corporate aspects it is important to develop a differentiation in both. Fischer, (2009) says that there are majorly two types of cultures those exists in the day to day life. The two cultures are the national culture of the person and the organizational culture. There is a major difference between the two when it is referred in accordance with the value and practices of an individual. He continues that the national culture can be observed in the values of the individual, but its presence in the practices is very limited. In the same way the presence of organizational culture is majorly found in the practice of the individual rather than in the values (Fischer, 2009). Ybema and Byun, (2009) has stated an argument presented by Schneider in 1997, which says that a multicultural organization have the presence of the culture of the parent country. Though organizations entering into different boundaries have to face the challenge of managing with the culture of the host country and managing the working of the organization in the method of the parent company. The authors emphasize that a person is encouraged by the nation’s culture which could be observed in the behavior, shared practices, and societal representation of the employee working in an organization (Ybema and Byun, 2009).
Though, the study of cross-culture management is taken as a new managerial development which was not identified before. But the deliverables of the history showed that the cross-culture management study was given equal importance by the authors as they have given to the studies of organizational behavior and other fields of management. The article in focus and its authors Bird and Mendenhall, (2016) says that while researching for the culture and business aspects, the journals written in early 1950s were found which was on the field of cross-cultural management. This is the time when globalization was finding its space in the corporate business world. With the rise of International business and globalization, the interest of authors and researchers increased in the topic and a lot studies and researches was published in 60s to 80s related to cross-cultural management (Bird and Mendenhall, 2016). Agreeing with the findings of the article Jondle,...
