There are two main sources of data on crime in the United States: the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports
(UCR) and the National Crime Victim Survey (NCVS). The UCR is the total of all crimes reported
to the police. The NCVS is based on a sample of people who are interviewed about whether they
have been victims of crime. What differences will there be in the picture of crime that each method
presents?
