There are three parts: Part 1: We have set aside $25,000.00 to the knowledge translation plan in support of your research project. Decide how you would like to allocate the funds and send me an invoice and project timeline, indicating where you plan to spend the funds (which media channels you will use, what sort of design and copy editor you will contract) as well as a project timeline. Please provide a brief justification for your choices as well. Prepare a comprehensive document, including a budget, project timeline, and SWOT analysis. The first section of your document should detail how you will use traditional and social media sources to promote your message. Your second section, the timeline, is how you imagine your communications will roll out over the course of your campaign. You are at the liberty to decide how long or short you wish the campaign to be and what occurs on each day of that campaign. Your third section should be a budgetary breakdown indicating how you wish to allocate your funds to achieve your communication objectives. We recognize that many of you may be unfamiliar with the costs associated with promoting via these sources. What we are looking for is whether the justification behind your budget makes sense, not the numbers you've crunched. Lastly, include a SWOT analysis. This will ensure your final submission is the most persuasive document it can be. A SWOT analysis includes four constituent parts: an evaluation of internal strengths, internal weaknesses, external opportunities, and external threats. You have a great deal of creative freedom in how you interpret the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of MCSKAPE. Remember that they are a research-centre first and foremost, so while they may have a lot of technical know-how, they may not be very business-minded. Part 2: Include a page outlining how their research will be simplified for communication's sake. They will want to make sure you are not misrepresenting or otherwise misinterpreting their work. To this end they will be evaluating you based on the accuracy of your translation, the credibility you've established in your communications, whether you've successfully communicated the relevance and implications of their research, as well as on general persuasiveness. Part 3: Compile your final knowledge translation plan using work from earlier parts including a budget, timeline, communications plan. Outlining how you have translated the scientist’s jargon into more accessible language. Your submission should also include a new component: the sample text. The sample text is a type of product sample which consists of a brief message communicating one or more of your key messages to your target audience(s) in 100 words or less. The actual message that you envision for this campaign might be longer but here you are only providing a 100-word sample of what this would look like. Your message should clearly demonstrate the application of strategies and tactics outlined in your communications plan and in the knowledge translation statement which you submitted for the previous task. This component of your submission should begin with a brief introduction (approx. 150 words) explaining the choices you made regarding channel/vehicle, writing style, etc., how these choices relate to elements of your communications plan, and any other details about your sample communications product you feel are relevant. After the introduction, include your sample text. The text can be composed for any channel or vehicle you wish (e.g., press release, poster, digital ad, webpage, a series of tweets, a script for an audio or video ad or public service annoucement, a speech, etc.) as long as your 100-word sample text is central to it. You can include a visual component if you wish but it is not required.
