There are 2 topics to comment attached: 200 words each with 2 reference each also., Harvard Topic 1: After reading the list of possible boundary violations related to psychiatric nurses, found in one of the prescribed texts, the last one listed made me reflect on something I have witnessed in my practice. The boundary violation listed states 'The nurse does business with or purchases services from the patient' (Stuart G.W. 2013). I have witnessed a nurse purchase a beautiful hand crafted card for the price of five dollars from a patient, to give to her mother for her birthday. What do people think about this? Do you think this is questionable as a boundary violation? Topic 2: 200 words, 2 reference, Harvard It is apparent that the nurses (especially in mental health) are facing the dilemma of the validity and the effect of the certain acts(such as buying goods from the shop with clients money when patient does not have unescorted leave). I believe as many of us agreed that buying and delivering small goods with patient money with clear receipt would not be harmful in context of patient-nurse therapeutic relationship only if such an act can assist and improve patients mental states and recovery. However, situation proposed above by Laura can be considered as risky practice as McClunie-Trust(2016) points out that the blurring lines between formal and informal roles in professional relationship may create ambiguity, threatening the safety of both patient and clinician. In personal experience, by allowing nurse to purchase the drinks and pack of snack with patient's own money from the shop for particular patient only, created numerous complaints from other patients due to unfair treatment.
