The use of paired samples allows for the control of variation because each pair is subject to the same common sources of variability.
A sample of ten 8-year-old boys had a body mass index (BMI) with a standard deviation of 1.6. A sample of seven 8-year-old girls had BMI with a standard deviation of 2.5. Is it reasonable to assume that the population variances are equal? Use α = 0.05.
