The third journal assignment is titled"You are the artist of your own life."Please explore what this statement means to you and how it may already be reflected in your life.
You can certainly discuss general concepts and principles -for example,"making decisions that affect the course of my life." That's a wonderful statement about each of us having free will and choosing the various paths we take. However, which specific choice or choices have you made that reflect a major decision that affected the course of your life.
For example, in my case, I made a choice in my early 30's to give up a successful career as a lobbyist in Washington D.C. and moved to San Francisco without a job in 1989 because I wanted to live there. One month after my arrival, I experienced that October earthquake in San Francisco, at which point I considered myself a native Californian. I lived there for over four more years till I made another choice to come back to New England, to RhodeIsland, which has ultimately led to today, my teaching at JWU.
As you work on your response, please reflect your own personality, your own passions and interests and your own choices. Please share what you feel you can or want to. As we have discussed, art is a form of communication and expression on a personal, individual level. This assignment is designed to allow you to do just that.
As with the previous assignment on Painting Analysis, I will set up a Turnitinlink so you can upload your response. In terms of length, 1 full page to 2 pages would be appropriate. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
To quote from Socrates,"The unexamined life is not worth living."Each of us has worth, each of us is unique and wonderful and destined for success. By examining our life, we provide depth and meaning and "color," line, form and texture - we discover shapes and patterns - and ultimately we create our own"pictorial space."
