Step 1:Read chapter 18 and read the attached primary sources (The Broken Spear: The Aztec Account of the Conquest of Mexico/The Conquest of New Spain)
Step 2:After completing the reading, answer the following questions.
1. How did Montezuma (Motecuhzoma in this account) respond to Cortés?
2. How does the Aztec account of the conquest differ from that of the Spanish, written by Díaz?
3. Does the Aztec account contradict the Spanish account in some areas? How? If you find contradictions, how will you decide which account to believe and accept?
