COLLAPSE
Columbus in 1492was given authorization by Isabella and Ferdinand to build two caravels and a carrack to sail across the Atlantic. The purpose of this voyage was to reach India before the Portuguese did. He was aided money by the Castilian and AragneseCrusade levies on the Muslims. After departing from the CastilianCanary Islands, more than a month later Columbus reached one of the Bahamanislands. Three months later Columbus left settlers behind and came back to Iberia with captured Caribbean islanders and gold. He did not reach India which he had hoped for but he did return with new islands in the Caribbean.(Sivers, Desnoyers, Stow)These islands for which he discovered he named San Salvador, Santa Maria deConcepcion, Fernandina, Isabela and Juana. Columbus found these islands to be very large in size which he was very surprised at. He found that these islands were all extremely fertile, many harbors that were on the coast of the sea, and contained many rivers which would be he would have great use for. The land was very high and moutainouswith all types of trees some even carrying fruit. Columbus found all types of fruits and plants on these islands, with that he found honey, mines and metals in the interior of these islands. The lands of these islands are in perfect conditions for planting, sowing, breeding cattle and for building towns and villages, which be of great use for Columbus. Sprices, and gold mines were also found on these islands along with different types of canoes. All of these discoveries that Columbus had made while on his voyage will help in trade and to introduce into life. These islands were a great find for Columbus, Isabella and Ferdinand for there is alotto do with these islands and there is a lot that these islands have to offer.(Columbus, Letter to Santangel)
