Social Policy Debate on Drugs
Introduction
The program talks about the war on d
rugs. Policing, prohibition, harm and minimization or both were looked at as possible solutions to the issues that had been presented. The video looked at the social policy debate that was related to the drugs, and how pill testing has been found to be an effective method by which the harm that is caused due to drugs would be stopped, or reduced (Carson & Kerr, 2018). The main aspect that underpins the views of the panel members is that most of them are talking about the effect that they have witnessed, or have lived ("Q&A on Drugs | 18th February 2019", 2019). This makes the idea of pill testing theoretical, or something whose negative consequences have not been experienced directly by the panel members, which makes the emotional aspect unappealing.
Social Policy Debate
I feel that Pill Testing is an essential part of ensuring that the drug that people get is pure. It can be seen that pill testing is the process by which drugs sold at events such as music festivals are tested in order to find the purity of the drugs. This can ensure that the drugs are not spiked, and it can help save lives in many cases. Thus, I find that the issue is up for debate, since it would be a significant change in policy. It can be seen that in most countries, such as the Netherlands of France, pill testing is common and is an essential part of their National Drug Administration policy (Jamrozik, 2009). Thus, I find myself siding in favour of Pill Testing. There are people who go to music festivals who are going to take drugs no matter what the consequences. There are many who might change their behaviours by going through the rigorous process that is often involved in pill testing.
