The Self in Movies

(Due date changed from 10/9 to 10/11)

For this assignment, you are being asked to watch a movie of your choice and to write a short paper about how the psychological concepts discussed in Chapter 5 manifest in the movie. Just be clear on the movie you selected and the basic premise of it, the concepts you are discussing, including but not limited to their definitions/descriptions. Do not quote your textbook or other source -- use only your own words unless you are quoting a character from the film, and also discuss how the concepts are reflected/manifested/demonstrated in the movie.Talk about at least five different concepts related to the self. You can also discuss some concepts from Chapter 6 if you wish to do so (not required that you do).

Don't use these - these are just some examples to give you an idea:Some relevant example movies could include: The Devil Wears Prada (2006; relevant to issues of 1) motivation, 2) self-perception theory, 3) ingratiation, and 4) social comparison, 5)looking glass self), A Fond Kiss (2004; a movie about a mixed ethnicity/religion couple, relevant to culture and the self, as one example), and I Love You Man (relevant to how men experience themselves in romantic relationships and same-sex friendships).

- Describe how the five chosen concepts are shown/demonstrated/reflected in the movie you chose and demonstrate your understanding of and ability to apply your social psychology knowledge to the big screen! :)

Your paper should be a minimum of approximately 500-600 words. Maximum 800 words or so.
