David Jones Limited (DJs) is a retailer that operates department stores in Australia. Its stores primarily offer cosmetics, menswear, womenswear and accessories, food products, home products, and products for babies and children. It also provides specialised services including gift cards, personal and online shopping, interior decorations, and financial services through an American Express alliance (Ya
hoo!7 Finance, n.d.). In DJs’ 175thyear of operations, senior management is grappling with difficult industry conditions that have led to a 13% fall in semi-annual profits (Fitzsimmons, 2013).
The primary purpose of this report is to discuss the processes and management of the project as far as upgraded IT system for the departmental store. The company wishes to roll out a plan involving launch and publication of the upgraded IT system for the company. The overarching goals of the project are marketing the company by attracting more customers and making it easy for the company for its different operations. Therefore, the objectives of the project include improving the competitiveness of the company through system upgrade and publication, enhancing employment opportunities for the employees and the customers by providing enhanced system on modern technology platforms as well as improving supply chain management and operations of the company.
The project management leverages the benefits of preparation of PID as an appropriate document intended to communicate critical elements of the project to the relevant stakeholders including the learners, staff, and senior management as well (Sutrisna, et al., 2018). Involvement of stakeholders is critical in ensuring successful implementation and maintenance of the project. The budgetary estimate for this project is £50,000 and is essential to the attainment key milestones.
The management of the project requires careful selection of various methodologies. The project compares and contrasts PRINCE2, waterfall, management methodologies to recommend the most appropriate approach for the project at hand. The methods have both merits and demerits as far as attainment of the goals or objectives is concerned (Turner, 2014). Thus, the sponsor needs to weigh such advantages and disadvantages when selecting methods. Therefore, recommendation emphasizes the ease of use of the prince2 in managing the launch and publication of the new project.
Introduction
Effective management of business projects is critical in the attainment of success during the implementation process. The choice of implementation process has direct impacts on the achieved of the set organizational goals and objectives. Some of the current business projects aimed at leveraging the benefits of technology in improving service provision (Wells, 2017). Proper use of the project initiation document (PID) is critical in ensuring the success of the most business project. Identification and addressing key risks associated with the implementation of the proposed company programs are also enabling factors worth considering. David Jones has made tremendous success in the upgrade of its IT infrastructural system to improve standards (Sutrisna, et al., 2018). Thus, the project involves the launch and publicizing the current IT system. Therefore, the primary purpose of this report is to discuss project implementation and management in light of the company as discussed below;
Project Initiation Document (PID)
PID is the initial document intended to communicate the scope of the project to relevant stakeholders. It serves as an effective means of communicating critical aspects of the project to the stakeholders of the David Jones project as well as staff and senior management within the Company (Sutrisna, et al., 2018). Thus, the PID will serve as the baseline against which the project administrators and coordinators can evaluate the success of the proposed project. Critical aspects of the PID are discussed below;
Objectives
The customers and employees are going to benefit from the IT infrastructural upgrade in David Jones in various ways. For instance, the customers will access online goods as well as their progress in class from anywhere as long as they have internet connectivity, thus, bettering their involvement with the company (Sutrisna, et al., 2018). Therefore, the project objectives include the following;
• To improve the competitiveness of the company through increased customer satisfaction.
• To increase the access to the products leverage the benefits of modern technology.
• To improve the existing supply chain management and delivery of the products.
Timescales
The implementation of the entire project will take at least six months to complete critical milestones. The project will kicks off and ends on October’19 and Feb, 2020 respectively.
