The role of the federal government in the lives of the American people changed dramatically from the time of the country’s founding to the present. Initially, the federal government maintained a limited presence in the daily lives of most people. Often, state and local governments were far more prominent and exercised greater autonomy then exercised today. As time progressed, the role and influence of the federal government became more prominent. Examples of expansion in federal authority are evident in events surrounding the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Progressive Era, the Great Depression, and the Civil Rights Era.


Identify and describe two (2) examples of U.S. federal government expansion of authority between the beginning of the U.S. Civil War and the end of the Civil Right Era.


These examples must be placed in the context political economic and social developments in the United States.

Abstract
If we ask 100 Americans what is the main cause the civil war, in my opinion, I think that 95 out
of that
100 would say the same word which is slavery. It should bear in mind that the Civil War happened to
deal with the rights of nations. They felt they had the whole right to secede from the Union. What
happened was essentially because of the nations feeling there rights were being discarded from the
scene. The state’s feeling was the same as the felling of colonies. We do remember well what the
result in the Revolutionary War was. The south was being forced to acquire products and services
delivered by the north. Those products and services were more expensive. The southern nations felt
they were losing political power in front of this situation.
Examples of U.S. Federal Government Authority Expansion Congress was given the permission in
1865 to combat the slavery. At that time, they did so by establishing the 13th Amendment. President
Abraham Lincoln had already adopted the Proclamation to try to stop slavery as an executive order.
The 13th Amendment caused that Proclamation the land’s law. The structure of the political part
presented the second section of the Proclamation giving Congress the power to execute and enforce
through legislation which is considered the most critical part. This permission gave them the
possibility and the ability to act and to take more elaborated actions against the 10 Confederate
nations. What happened would also enable the government to introduce and to pass more
Proclamations concerning the slaves’ rights.
