Course Materials



Introduction:



This assignment is a research/writing assignment. It is not a whole “research paper”. The objective is your ability to use and demonstrate your new Word 2016 skills to prepare a paper in MLA format, and, for you to also learn a little about devices, software, hardware, or people in the world of computers. The research is minimal.



This project is the basis of your semester-end presentation. If you do not do this, you cannot do that. (This assignment is worth 40 points; the presentation based on it will be worth 35)



Please read the requirements carefully. Clarification questions should be asked in class.




Requirements:






  1. Using the Computer Concepts textbook, a topic needs to be selected. All topics must come from the Computer Concepts book and be approved by the instructor. No duplicates are allowed. A sign-up sheet will be used in class. You will need to submit both the Topic and the page numbers it is covered in the text.




  1. Using the College’s resources, (online or physical) find 1 (one) article or source of information about your topic. Document the information. Your source must be current, no older than 2013.





    1. You must document the material used, or your assignmentwill notbe accepted.




  1. If you use a book or other printed source, make copies of the pages used.

  2. A working web link will be accepted, but it must work, and it must go to your specific source.



  • No exceptionswill be made on this requirement.




    1. Note thatWikipediais not a valid academic source, and papers citing it will not be accepted.





  1. Write an Introductory paragraph that is about 50 words, explaining your topic in a general sense.




  1. Then a summary of the information presented in the textbook. What do you hope to learn? Or, are you hoping to share a particular piece of information with the class? Why did you select this topic?




  1. Based on your understanding of the material presented in the information you found from yourone source:


    1. Write at least two (2) paragraphs that are each about one hundred (100) words long explaining the material.





  1. Write a fifth paragraph, about 100 words, giving your feedback to this information to summarize and conclude your paper.





    1. How do you feel about this?

    2. Did you learn what you hoped to learn?

    3. Had you heard about this topic before?

    4. Did your topic relate to something learned in another course?





  1. Source evaluation:





    1. Write one more paragraph, or prepare a table, evaluating the source you found on your own.

    2. See pages 108 - 109 of the Computer Concepts text book.

    3. Address all five criteria; Authority, Bias, Relevance, Audience, and Links.





  1. All work must be word processed with the following standard (MLA format):






    1. MLA Style is selectedin the References Ribbon of Word 2016.

    2. Sources are documented in the“sources”of the References ribbon.

    2. Turn off the “space after paragraph” option, or select the “No Spacing” style.

    3. Insert your last name and page number in the top-right header.

    4. Create a Title Block by:

  • Write BUAD112 under my name.



  1. Write the due date of this assignment under BUAD112





    1. Center the title of your topic.

    2. Use the “First Line Indent” to indent your paragraphs. (no “tab”)


    3. Generateand format the Works Cited page from your sources.

    4. Write the total number of words at the end of your document.




  1. The assignmentshould not exceed 800 words, including Works Cited.




  1. Save your work and then submit using the link in Canvas. No, you do not need to print.




  1. Forty (40) points are possible for this assignment. To earn all 40 you must:





    1. Display an understanding of the material presented.

    3. Use standard English grammar.


    4. Create and process your paper as presented in steps #3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 above.

    5. If you quote a passage; put it in quotation marks and cite it.

Introduction
Internet is the network connectivity of computers that help the users connect with one another across the globe. As mentioned by Huang et al., it provides a wide range of information and serves as a communication platform, which has made human lives a lot easier. This compels to understand how it works, through the current study.
Information from the Textbook
Internet is becoming, gradually, a very useful technology that is eventually gaining the status of being indispensable to conduct the daily works in the human life. As mentioned by Martin et al., it is a highly efficient connective technology that follows certain protocols to interconnect devices, which earlier were only computers, while now have expanded to connecting mobile phones, watches and even televisions. As stated by Seguin, internet is a short abbreviated form of the term “interconnected network”, which clearly depicts the essence of what internet does— that is create a network by connecting all the devices together that are linked within that network. However, the usefulness of this medium leads to arising a question as how this happens actually, which is why this topic has been selected for research and analysis (Martin et al.). In this context, Seguin presents a very simplistic explanation to the basic working of the internet that connects the devices through a protocol known as TCP or IP, which are Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or Internet Protocol (IP).
