Presentation slides Case Study Project Report The final project report will take the form of an academic report of approximately 2500 words not including references. Presentation Provide a summary of the Case Study Project in the presentation slides. Assignment Details Note: The case study below may not provide all the information necessary to complete the project. Students will have to use their personal experiences to complete some aspects of the assignment. Students may also seek clarification from their tutor. Background “Course Registration Process of Eastern State University (ESU)” The process of assigning professors to courses and the registration of students is a frustrating and time-consuming experience. The management of Eastern State University (ESU) is looking to hire a business analyst who can make their business process run more efficiently. After the professors of ESU have decided which courses they are going to teach for the semester, the Registrar's office enters the information into the computer system. A batch report is printed for the professors indicating which courses they will teach. A course catalogue is printed and distributed to the students. The students currently fill out (multipart, multicolour) registration forms that indicate their choice in courses and return the completed forms to the Registrar's office. The typical student load is four courses. The staff of the Registrar's office then enters the students' forms into the mainframe computer system. Once the students' curriculum for the semester has been entered, a batch job is run overnight to assign students to courses. Most of the time, the students get their first choice; however, in those cases where there is a conflict, the Registrar's office talks with each student to get additional choices. Once all the students have been successfully assigned to courses, a hard copy of the students' schedule is sent to the students for their verification. Most student registrations are processed within a week, but some exceptional cases take up to two weeks to solve. Students can change (add or drop) their registered courses during the first two weeks of the semester. Therefore, they should talk with the staff at Registrar’s office at their earliest and such requests must be only considered when the minimum limit of enrolments for the course is already satisfied. Otherwise, the requests will be rejected, and students must proceed with their first choices. Once the initial registration period is completed, professors receive a student roster for each course they are scheduled to teach. At the beginning of the teaching period, professors should share teaching materials of the course with the given student list. Throughout the teaching period, professors may be able to change (add or drop) the teaching materials. Furthermore, the professors will be able to record and view the grades and marks of the assessment taken by the students in their classes. At the end of the semester, the course coordinator conducts a course reviewing session based on the feedbacks of the students. Under this session, students are given a form to fill out a form regarding their learning experience of the course. The form contains three sections: the feedback about the course content, feedback about the teaching staff and feedback about the registration process. The staff in Registrar’s office creates a summary report based on feedbacks about course content and teaching staff and send it to relevant professor who taught the course. The summary report on registration process will be shared with the registrar and course coordinator. These summary reports are used to improve the course registration process. Problem Statement 1. At the beginning of each semester, students may request a course catalogue containing a list of course offerings for the semester. 2. Information about each course, such as professor, department, and prerequisites will be included to help students make informed decisions. 3. The new system will allow students to select four course offerings for the coming semester. 4. In addition, each student will indicate two alternative choices in case a course offering becomes filled or cancelled. 5. No course offering will have more than ten students or fewer than three students. 6. A course offering with fewer than three students will be cancelled. 7. Some courses have course pre-requisites. 8. Once the registration process is completed for a student, the registration system sends information to the billing system so the student can be billed for the semester. 9. Professors must be able to access the online system to indicate which courses they will be teaching, and to see which students signed up for their course offerings. 10. For each semester, there is a period that students can change their schedule. Students must be able to access the system during this time to add or drop courses. 11. At the end of the semester, the students will be able to view a performance report containing the grades of all courses taken by him or her. The study describes the development of the course registration system of Eastern State University. The university required this system because the registration process is time-consuming and frustrating. This system will help the university in managing the information on the computer system. It will help students in filling out the registration form for indicating the choice of course. The system will help the university in managing the process of registration easily and allocate students with courses of choice. It will also help professors in managing the roster and schedule teaching. At the end, the system will have an option for getting feedback about course content and teaching staff.
1. Vision
The vision of the project is to ease the registration process. The system should provide facilities to students to fill out registration forms that can indicate the choice of course and return the complete form. After the completion of the registration process professors can get the roster for each course that is scheduled for teaching. The application will provide the ability to view and record the marks and grades of the assessment taken by students in the class. The system will have a feedback form for collecting the feedback from students about teaching staff and course content.

The front will have a “Course Registration System” and displays the form that is required to be filled by the student. The student will be able to choose the course by providing choice and other personal information. In the process exceptional handling can be used for potential errors. The form can be seen by the registrar and according to the eligibility the form will be accepted or rejected.

The course registration system will help students in gathering the information about the particular course and then register to the particular course. The system will act like a bridge between student and registrar for the exchange of information as it includes a database that will store the information that will be shared with both sides and it will help in making the complete process simple and easy.
5. Assumptions
It is assumed that the course registration system that will help students in selecting the course according to the semester. The system will help students to have alternative choices. It will help the registrar in gathering information about students to select students according to eligibility. Professor will have the facility to create a roster for teaching.

The system will have an automated system for registration with the use of computers. This will show the use of process models to develop the system. The system will option for online submission of the application form. It will work with a proper login system for users where security is required [7]. The system will be designed on web technologies that include use of CSS, HTML, PHP and JavaScript. Functions will include registration, student information, information search, courses, and schedule function and payment option for different sources. The information of the student will be shared with the registrar and it will help in understanding the eligibility of the student for the course.

The user of the service will be faculty, administration and students. Students will use registration system for registering for the course. The system will compensate for any lack of knowledge of the course and it will help students in understanding the requirements for the course along with the payment option [6]. Administration and faculty will have access to the database and the system that is connected with the database. This will help the administrator or registrar in gaining the information about students. The system will include maintenance users and service technicians that will be responsible for maintaining the service.
