The purpose of this assignment is to learn how to ‘translate’ research; address ethical and legal dilemmas in the digital era; and media concepts in a form of communication that is suitable for a specific target public audience. This type of activity could be considered an employability skill requirement for anyone who is considering Media Communication as a profession.
Students will be required to write a blog posts in the ePortfolio platform. Each blog will respond to weekly topics, and draw on key terms and concepts covered in the lectures, in reading material, online sessions, as well as content covered in the tutorials. Each student will determine the main topic of their blog.
blog post will have a specific theme and must make clear connections between key concepts and issues covered in allocated weeks lectures, readings and media examples. Students must use critical thinking skills to develop a strong, well-informed written piece. This can be supplemented with images and media but it is the written work that will be the primary assessment.
blog posts should be aimed at an audience aged 18-25 years. You will need to demonstrate knowledge of key concepts and issues covered in the unit, beginner level academic writing skills, incorporate personal/professional/social intersections; and awareness of your audience.
A -500 word blog on weekly topics(total of 500 words)
Criteria for marking:
Coherent design and layout.
The analysis makes clear connections between key concepts and issues covered in lectures, tutorials, and readings. The ability to provide links between personal, professional, and social purposes and digital storytelling.
Uses critical thinking skills to develop a strong, well-informed point of view.
The written style is clear, succinct, and displays familiarity with stylistic elements of blogging covered in tutorials and ancillary materials.
Appropriate use of images and titles.
Gives attention to detail and proofreading.
