The permissible areas for restriction are sometimes defined by international treaty or convention, and these modes of definition and limitation are becoming more influential. Certain of these motivations for restriction—national security, territorial integrity, and prevention of disorder, for example—are memorialized in section 2 of Article 10 of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR).
