The Perceived Social Support–Family Scale (PSS-Fa) is selected to measure family social support (Procidano & Heller, 1983). The PSS-Fa is a 20-item self-report scale with a potential range of values from 0 to 20, and lower scores indicate more support. (Actually, with the author’s original scoring procedure, higher scores indicate more support, but the direction of the scores was reversed for this example to make it easier to interpret the relationship between this scale and the other two scales in the example.)
