The opening size of a proposed culvert under a new road is to be determined. The embankment is shown drawn to scale in Figure 13-26. The culvert should be aligned with the stream profile and be able to fit beneath the proposed roadway. Design discharge has been computed to be 750 cfs. Tailwater depth is 4.0 ft. The allowable headwater elevation (AHE) is the top of the embankment. Find the culvert opening dimensions for the following shapes:


a. Circular concrete pipe


b. Concrete box


 Note: Multiple barrels are allowed and each culvert has 45-degree wingwalls and a square edge entrance. Which shape would you choose?
