Extracted text: The oldest known fossils of turtles look just like living turtles. The relationship between turtles and other amniotes has thus been heavily debated for years. Numerous genetic studies analyzing various parts of the genomes of amniotes have been conducted and all indicate that turtles are most closely related to birds and crocodilians (see molecular tree). This conflicts with morphological evidence (see morphology tree) which places turtles as more closely related to lizards than to crocodilians and birds.
