The objective of this assignment is to assess your understanding of basic project management concepts and your proficiency in using project management software to produce project charts and reports. In particular, the assignment focuses on the following project management knowledge areas in the PMBOK: project integration management, project scope management, project time management and project cost management.
Your task is to develop a project case for a major tourist attraction along a major Australian highway. There are many franchises of this business. The development is for a private tourist business which attracts domestic and international customers from all walks of life including adults, teenagers, children and senior citizens.
The business attracts around 200,000 families per year. The various business Information Systems are quite dated and include a number of legacy systems. The efficiency of the systems in producing management reports is found to be lacking.
The management board decided to upgrade the core information system to accommodate both fixed and wireless devices (laptops, tablets, mobile phones etc.). The immediate task at hand is to develop a project plan for considerations of the following
1. financial modeling aspects,
2. human resource requirements,
3. scheduling tasks, and
4. customer interface requirements.
The management board would like to see an integrated, up-to-date system being developed that can support the staff and the management of the tourist attraction, but can also provide full services to customers through the latest handheld wireless devices. The existing infrastructure is not able to cater for such devices. The following pain points have been identified by the management board:
1. The process for a customer to gain entry into the attraction is cumbersome and slow.
2. Information pertaining to the number of customers who have visited the attraction is limited.
3. Cost of printing brochures and maps to inform customers of the different attractions is rising and the brochures are always out of date due to upgrades and maintenance of the different attractions.
4. The current infrastructure does not support mobile devices (smart phones, tablets etc.).
5. Facility management is very manual and all issues with the attraction are manually tracked and assigned to technicians. This is time consuming and requires technicians to come back to the office after each job to close out the issue and get another assigned issue.
6. Recently the attraction has been fined due to not having any information on the number of people in the attraction at any time. This is a safety issue and requires a temporary solution within 90 days with a permanent solution within a year or the attraction will be closed.
Your task is to develop a professional business report for the CEO of the business. The business report you are expected to provide is a complete project plan / project brief document to outline the project. Your project plan / project brief submission should include the following as per the assignment requirements below.
