The great epistemologists of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were, one must admit, a little mad, what with their dreams of settling once and for all, by a philosophical investigation, the limits of human knowledge. Is there any way of determining whether there are limits beyond which human knowledge cannot go? Would it help us to know more about the structure and functioning of our sense organs? Would a deeper insight into computers make any difference?
