Tourism and Hospitality
Hospitality is interactive in nature and comprises of personal contact between the supplier and beneficiary. In 1990, Hepple, Kipps and Thomson identified that hospitality has four basic characteristics (Justesen et al., 2016). It is a behaviour granted by a host on a guest who has left from home. Besides, hospitality involves a combination of tangible and intangible aspects. Lastly, the host offers the security, mental and physical ease of the guest. In the commercial area, private hospitality is generally used as the standard to assess the hospitality conduct (Justesen et al., 2016). Five main characteristics of commercial hospitality were found by Hemmington, which are host-guest relationship, generosity, theatre and performance, lots of little surprises and safety and security. It is argued that the satisfaction of the beneficiary would be created by the quality of the sentiments conceived through the unforgettable experiences.
Tourism and hospitality are interrelated; however, not same. In context of destination, tourism involves travel to different places, which could be cities, monuments, heritage sites or any other recreational places. While the hospitality is about the treatment and services provided to the tourists while visiting these destinations. In context of business, tourism and hospitality are largely dependent on each other. When the tourists visit a destination, they want good services and quality treatment, which will pursue the tourists to return to the destination and encourage more people to visit, thereby increasing the business of tourism (Getz and Page, 2016). Likewise, when the tourism is poor then the hospitality area will have nobody to provide services to and the hospitality business will be affected negatively.
