The figure shown may have useful information for the following process.

A given process is designed to recover 1-butanol from a feed gas stream which contains both 1-butanol and air.

The feed gas stream has a flow rate of 240 kmol/hr and it is 35% (by mole) 1-butanol. This stream is fed into a condenser which is operating at
T
= 120oC and
P
= 4.5 atm. The vapor stream and liquid stream that leave this condenser are in phase equilibrium. The 1-butanol in the liquid stream is considered to be recovered.

Assume that air is a non-condensable species and that only1-butanol will condense.

a) Find the composition (mole fraction) of the vapor exit stream.

b) Find the flow rate (kmol/hr) of the vapor exit stream.

c) Find the fraction of the original 1-butanol recovered.

Consider the following changes to the process. The pressure of the consider is maintained at P = 4.5atm. The goal is to achieve a fractional 1-butanol recovery of 75%.

d) Find the new temperature (oC) of the condenser.
