The figure below shows the soybean oil production process. In the  Soybean oil production is used bean containing 13.0% by weight of oil and  87.0% by weight of solids. The bean is ground and fed to an EXTRACTOR along with  a stream of liquid hexane. The feed ratio is 3.0 kg hexane liquid per 1.0 kg of beans. The ground bean is suspended in the liquid and almost all the oil Contained in it is extracted with hexane. The output of the extractor goes to a FILTER where  a filtration cake containing 75.00% by weight of solids is obtained, 23.96% in weight of hexane and 1.04% by weight of oil. Filtration cake is discarded and filtered liquid is fed to an EVAPORATOR in which the hexane is vaporized and the oil comes out liquid horn. The oil is stored in drums and shipped.



  1. Calculate the yield obtained from oil (kg of oil/kg of fed bean).

  2. Calculate the performance of the necessary feed of fresh hexane (kg of fresh hexane/kg of fed beans).

  3. Calculate the relationship between hexane recirculation and fresh feed (kg of recovered hexane/kg of fresh hexane).
