The European Food Safety Authority recently issued a scientific opinion on the public health risks related to mechanically separated meat (MSM). The analysis suggested that calcium could be used to distinguish between MSM and non-MSM products.23 A random sample of MSM poultry was obtained and the deboner head pressure (x, lb/in2 ) and the amount of calcium (y, ppm) was measured for each. The data are given in the following table.
a. Find the estimated regression line.
b. Find an estimate for the true mean calcium for a pressure of 100 lb/in2 .
c. Suppose a deboner is set at a pressure of 120 lb/in2 . Is there any evidence to suggest that the true mean calcium is greater than 625 ppm? Find the p value associated with this test.
d. Suppose certain hand-deboned poultry has on average 600 ppm calcium. What should the pressure be for the mean calcium level for MSM poultry to be the same value?
