The efficiency of multiple-effect evaporator systems can be expressed in terms of the steam economy, which is the ratio of the mass of total vapor (new steam) produced to the mass of the process steam used. As the number of effects increases, the steam economy increases. The following data were collected in a pilot-sized double-effect evaporator system as a 2factorial experiment with r = 3 replications.
