Prince Among Slaves
The documentary prince a
mong slaves portrays the picture of how an African prince was enslaved and sold. Abd-Al-Rahman was born in a royal family in the Futa Jallon region, which is now famous as the place Guinea. He has gained his education in several centers of Islamic intellectual learning. He was well versed in reading and writing Arabic and he speak three other languages including Bambara, Mandingo, and Jallonke. Rahman's father sends him for training in military leadership. Rahman was captured during a battle when he was just 24 years old and was sold into slavery. The traders who were a part of the trans-Atlantic slave trade took him first to the Caribbean and then to New Orleans where he was sold to the farmer named Thomas Foster in Mississippi.
The story that describes how Abd-Al-Rahman got enslaved represents that during a battle in which he was involved he was captured by some of the traders who were viably involved in the trading on the people for slavery. Considering his enslavement he spent nearly forty years of his life as a slave working on a cotton plantation in Natchez, Mississippi.
