The discovery of America and that of the passage to the East Indies by the Cape of Good Hope, are the two (2) greatest events recorded in the history of [human] kind” – Adam Smith, inThe Wealth of Nations,1776. Introduction
The discovery of United States of America by Christopher Columbus mark a historical event which has lead to development of exchange policies of the new world. During his quest for the Eastern, coast of India Christopher Columbus accidentally made port on the eastern coast of the continent of North America. This marked a significant event in the history of Europe because after this time a new World order comprising of advanced trade and economy would follow because of the newly found land of North America.
New Mode of Exchange
The old and new world exchange can be characterized by a number of factors that have emerged over the ages after discovery of North America. They are as follows-
1. Economic exchange and modification of trade routes has been the first criterion that was fulfilled after the discovery of North America. As opined by Pascali, number of economic modifications in the European trade took place due to the advantageous utilization of raw materials that very readily available in the continent of America.
2. Cultural exchange took place between the European countries and the American natives, which resulted in development of number of styles. The intermixing of American and European culture resulted in development of the current American culture that we see today.
3. The exchange of skilled labor from the United States of America to Europe was a result of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus....
