The diameter and stroke of an L.P. cylinder of a double-acting compound steam engine are each 600 mm. Steam is supplied at a pressure of 11 bar and is exhausted to 0.28 bar. The diagram factor referred to the L.P. cylinder is 0.82. The expansion is complete in the H.P. cylinder. The total expansion ratio in the engine is 8. Assuming equal work developed in each cylinder and engine runs at 240 r.p.m., calculate:
(i) The indicated power
(ii) The intermediate pressure
(iii) The diameter of the H.P. cylinder assuming equal stroke length with that of the L.P. cylinder
