The development of leadership capacity in the field of early childhood continues to be a critical
challenge to the profession. The national policy agenda that focuses on quality in children’s services
and schools calls for all educators to look beyond their classroom door and engage with families and
communities. Indeed, this is exemplified in the National Quality Standard, the Early Years Learning
Framework and the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching.
TOPIC: With reference to credible contemporary literature and evidence-based research, write a
rationale for why educators should lead families and communities in engaging with school
communities and/or children’s educational services.

years) drawn from credible journals and sites.
