The development of leadership capacity in the field of early childhood continues to be a critical
challenge to the profession. The national policy agenda that focuses on quality in children’s services
and schools calls for all educators to look beyond their classroom door and engage with families and
communities. Indeed, this is exemplified in the National Quality Standard, the Early Years Learning
Framework and the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching.
TOPIC: With reference to credible contemporary literature and evidence-based research, write a
rationale for why educators should lead families and communities in engaging with school
communities and/or children’s educational services.
Remember to:
• Justify your perspective with reference to evidence-based research and recent literature (last six
years) drawn from credible journals and sites.
• Make links to the NQS and the APTS standards where possible
• Move beyond description towards critical analysis and reflection; demonstrate a connected
argument that merges theory and practice.

Introduction
With modernisation and changing trends in the field of education, it has become essential for the educators to look beyond their classroom environment and make dedicated efforts to engage with the families of the children and their community. Parents, families and the cultural background of the children play an essential role, when it comes to the education of the children in the early childhood. Many researchers have shared their opinion that, when schools and families work in coordination with each other children are tend to perform better and develop leadership qualities, which can assist them to grow personally and professionally. It has been observed that children tend to perform better in school and are more engaged with their work, when they find their families being engaged with the school communities and educational services. This will also help children to develop better social skills.
Role of Educators for Leading Families and Communities to Engage with School Communities
    Since, families and communities are the first teacher of the children, who have taught them ample of things by the time they come to formal early childhood educational setting, it is essential that the families and communities continue to be a part of the learning journey of the children. In order to engage the parents and families with their children while they learn in school in the early childhood days, educators play a crucial role. These educators make considerable efforts to make the families, parents and communities understand the fact that play a specific role in the education of the children. These educators conduct frequent meetings with the parents of these children to make them understand that the participation of the family and the community acts as a primary building block for the education of their children not only as in academic terms but in terms of morals and values (APTS, 2020). A number of induction programs and seminars are being conducted by these educators to make the parents, families and communities aware of their role in the education of their children. They make the parents and communities understand their engagement can do wonders to the way their child learn in school and engage with the school work. These educators have been acting as a guide not only for the children but for the parents, families and community of these children as well.
Rationale for Leading Families and Communities to Engage with School Communities and Educational Services
    As the educational environment all across the globe has been revolutionising, refining and re-defining the educational goals for preparing socially responsible citizens, who could contribute to the economy of globe has become the priority of most of the schools and educational services. Therefore, involvement of families and communities is on the top of the priority list of most of the schools (Heinrichs, 2018). The schools and educational services no matter in rural, suburban or urban settings are of the notion that engagement of families and communities is essential for the educational success of the children.
Defining the Involvement of Families and Communities
    Involvement of families and communities that have been facilitated by schools and educators refers to way schools assists families to come together and create a home like environment that will allow these families to support their children while they learn like students. Necessity for such support is promoted by school and classroom volunteer programs and through workshop for families and parents. To define family or parental involvement in more precise terms, it could be understood as the participation of parents in a regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities (Stefanski, Valli & Jacobson, 2016).
