Introduction

    Ethics in counseling is closely related to the moral, cultural and spiritual values of the individuals. When being into a counseling profession, counselors must adhere to a strict ethical framework. Ethics in counseling are extremely important to ensure responsibility, confidentiality and integrity on the part of the counselor. The task of the counselors is not only to use the learned techniques to help people but their tasks are more on the ethical side. Ethics is all about exploring the concepts of the right and the wrong taking different perspectives into consideration. A well-formulated ethical framework is not only important for giving guidance to counselors but also helps to build a strong relationship between the counselor and client.
Code of Ethics in Counseling
    In order to behave ethically and to follow the ethics of counseling as a profession, it is important for the counselors to reflect upon their own selves by conducting a number of self-awareness activities. This will not only assist the professionals to fulfill their ethical duties towards themselves but towards their clients as well. As opined by Corey (2015), one of the most important ethical principles of counseling is the ability of the counselors to be non-judgmental of their clients in terms of their age, sex, religion, culture or physical disabilities. Moreover, the counselors are expected to stay professional all the times and should make considerable efforts to stick by the equal opportunities act. The code of ethics in counseling as a profession is based on the following four ethical principles:
· Respect the dignity and rights of the clients: According to this principle, the counselors must treat their clients with utmost respect and should display this respect by being patient listeners with their clients.
