The candidate for City Council, an advocate of reducing the tax assessment for businesses, is urging her opponents to participate in a public debate on the economic issues facing Middlevale, which has suffered from unemployment rates as high as 25 percent in recent years, brought on by the loss of several businesses that relocated to the suburbs, claiming that the city's tax structure prevents them from earning a fair profit and remaining competitive while suburban businesses receive the same public services while paying lower taxes.
