Assessment 2 – 50% Weighting 50% Format Case studies Word limit 1500 Date/Week Week 12: 19th October 2020 Submit Via Turnitin Blackboard Assignment Overview What? You are a worker within a child-parent centre working with a range of families on guiding children’s behaviour. Create a 500-word report on each of the 3 presented case studies (total word count 1500) to guide the centre’s work with these families. Your report should include the following information: · Possible reasons for the child’s behaviour that examine or refer to context, culture, gender: Reasons: context, gender surrounding the included in the case study. Micro (Bronfenbrenner)ECOLOGICAL system of the child. Impact on cultural expectations or assumptions, what socially acceptable behavior looks like in the child’s background. How social and cultural construction of gender are impacting on the child’s behavior Micro(Bronfenbrenner ECOLOGOCAL SYSYEM) or broader social and culture context. External element that may contribute to the child feeling that the behavior they are displaying is normal or acceptable or displaying this particular behavior. The theoretical approach that is chosen per case study – looking at the need of the behavior you are aiming to meet – based on the need/ goal of the behavior you are aiming to meet. Looking at how or why that behavior has been learnt or reinforced. Depending on the theoretical approach you take will come up with different reasons for that child’s behavior. Draw on the modes of analysis or the understanding of why children behave in a particular way that emerge from the theoretical approaches of humanism, behaviorism and cognitivism – reasons will look at the broader picture, look at goals or need of behavior or how that behavior has been learnt or reinforced. · Strategies you would recommend for responding to the child’s behaviour, explanations of these strategies and your reasons for recommending them (your reasoning should be attentive to context, culture, gender and/or cultural competence) Strategies that are recommended in responding to the child’s behavior might be aimed at the workers in the centre, aimed at ways to model behavior, Or creating activities that make it a guidance need for that particular child or they might be strategies that it would be possible to share with the family that you're working with, or the community to be used within the family setting, or with the child. Which of these you choose, the strategies that would be aimed at and implemented by the workers, or strategy that would be shared with and used within the family setting? It will depend on the context of the case study; such depends what the case study looks like and you can choose how you would proceed in that particular case study. Like -are you giving skills and advice and guidance to the family or are you sharing this information with workers in the centre and the strategies that you recommend might vary on how you would recommend the venues- might vary depending on whether there for workers or forward or upskilling family in that particular area or sharing a different strategy with the family · A clear explanation of the theoretical approach(es) from which these strategies derive The Third Point is about the theoretical approach is and here we're talking primarily about humanism behaviourism and cognitive behaviour. but obviously you will need to talk about why these strategies are, why the child's behaviour is appearing from a development perspective. So, you need to be talking about in relation to development theories also, but the strategies should be linked to your theoretical approaches of humanism behaviourism and or cognitive behaviour. These need to be referenced of course so you need to be able to explainer references. · A identification programme within the child-parent centre or relevant service that you might recommend the child/family attend and why. · The 4th point, - the final point here is about identifying a program within the child parent centre or a relevant service that you might recommend the child or family attend - and why you would recommend that. With this program it should be researched and explained and referenced. The program can be from an existing child parent centre or relevant service but what I'd like you to do here is to identify something specific that is relevant to this is behavioral goals or the guidance goals (that you've identified as being necessary for the child or family or to support the child to guide the children's behavior) You need to be able to explain why it's relevant and therefore it needs to be specific to that child (it's not going to be enough just to say oh the family should go and do circle security course because they need new guidance strategies) so if you were going to recommend this circle of Security course you would need to do some research about it and demonstrate how that would give the family skills or new knowledge’s that might support them to guide that the child's behavior in ways that are different. so that you can kind of get a sense of child centers in WA and how you can find this information about what programs are running at the child care centre- and how you think go about researching them. A useful website is https://childandparentcentres.wa.edu.au/ (click on the centers button to find out more about the program available) Then research the purpose of the program. Put link into the assignment. Make a clear link between what the program offers and what need we are seeking to address. Make sure to reference. Can use services outside of the child and parent website Why? Report Reports aim to clearly transmit information about a topic that has been compiled as a result of research and analysis to a specific audience and for a specific purpose. As such, it is an essential communication skill needed for business, government and academia. Problem solving Being able to effectively solve problem is a highly sought-after skill by employers. You will develop your problem solving skills in this assessment when you identify and evaluate the relevant aspects of the issue /problem, break them down into their constituting parts, consider various ways of approaching and resolving the issue /problem, decide on the most appropriate way to overcome it and propose a way to monitor and seek feedback on the solution you put forward. Please read through the marking rubric to ascertain expectations for the assignment. Learning Outcomes addressed by Assessment 2 1. Deconstruct the underlying assumptions, goals and strategies applied in humanist, behavioural and cognitive behavioural approaches to child rearing and parenting programs. 2. Describe the relationship between changing social, cultural and family structures and approaches to child rearing in the Australian and international context.(Contextual factors) 3. Explain the influence of context, culture and gender in the Australian and international context in the determination of what is deemed socially acceptable behaviour for children from birth to twelve years of age. 4. Discuss the role of cultural competence in understanding, interpreting and managing children's behaviour. 5. Observe, interpret, plan strategies and evaluate children's behaviour using a range of assessment techniques. Unit Content addressed by Assessment 2 1. Theoretical approaches and strategies for guiding children’s behaviour 2. Contextualising children’s behaviour and adult responses to it. 3. Interpreting, evaluating and planning strategies to respond to children’s behaviour Child rearing assignment 2 Q: Just wondering about assessment 2 - in the Assignment 2 Overview, there are 4 dot points of what you are wanting covered in the case study assessment. The dot points begin with Possible reasons for the child's behaviour - however in the rubric there doesn't appear to be any marking points attributed to this question, whereas each other dot point has 10 points in the marking key. Just wondering do we not really waste our word count in answering this question?? Also is the assessment set out in a formalised report format. The only reports I have submitted before have contained a title page, contents page, introduction, body, conclusion, reference etc. Not sure if you are looking for this level of formality. Last question - does the last dot point about the program which you would recommend for the family or child need to be referenced - I am not sure where I would find this kind of referenced information. I am thinking that child and parent centres offer many very valuable programs to families, which would work well with the case scenarios but you don't necessarily find these recommendations in academic material. A: Thanks for these excellent questions. 1) The possible reasons section isn't assessed as its own quotient on the rubric, however you will need to identify possible reasons to give explanations of the behaviour and link them to strategies chosen. While this is not assessed overall it will support and help you to explain your choices for strategies and approaches. 2) In terms of formatting the report, you don't need a separate title page etc. If you use a separate heading for each 'report' then that should suffice. You should have an intro and conclusion, but these can be very brief. Referencing is absolutely necessary but can come at the end of the assignment to cover all 3 short reports. 3) Please do reference the info you draw on here: it doesn't have to be from academic sources, you can/should draw on parent centre websites and other community resources and reference them A: I would prefer you to incorporate the intro and conclusion into each report, so that the total word count for each is 500 including intro and conclusion. The intro and conclusion can be relatively slim. You don't need an intro and conclusion for the entire assignment, you can simply lay it out as 3 separate reports, each with a distinct heading to separate it from the others. So something like: Report One: Title Intro Body (2-3 paras) Conclusion Report 2: Title Intro Body Conclusion etc... Case Study One
In the first case, the context of the child’s behavior is driven from the atmosphere he lives at home’; the perception of mother encouraging the child for being physical as ‘boy’s behavior’ is something that has been engrained in his behavioral approach. his cognitive perceptio
n has been structured around the philosophy of dominance and interference by force. He is not instructed—or rather nurtured on the grounds of being civic enough to share and care for others—about behaving well among others which has enabled the ideology of living with force in him and it needs formal addressing.
For responding to the child’s behavior, couple of strategies would include promotion of humanism and cognitive approach simultaneously (Akhigbe, 2019). He will be placed in conditions where he will learn about the value of share and care instead of initiating the struggles at physical level. He will be encouraged to make as much groups as possible as his personal social structure i.e. more and more friends will be added to his social circle at the center and they will be asked to share their toys with him. His reactions to the process of sharing will be noticed. It is implied that the development of humanistic values in his behavior will be seen from the perception of obligation; the other children would oblige him by sharing their things and in as the token of appreciation, the child will learn about how to exchange toys with others.
The application of the behavioral theory is relevant here to develop humanistic values (Akhigbe, 2019). Theorists in behavioral learning claim that learning happens when behavioral changes can be observed. Learning the behavioral learning model is the product of conditioning. The foundation of conditioning is that a reward serves as a factor to reinforce following a desirable response and raises the probability that the desirable response will be replicated. The core of the behaviorist approach is reinforcement. In every instance of desirable behavior, continuous reinforcement is helpful when a behavior is being implemented. If a desired pattern is developed, the pattern is sustained by intermittent reinforcement. Therefore, in order to develop the behavioral approach of share and care, the child will be placed in favorable and simulated conditions so that he will learn about it (Akhigbe, 2019).
The child will be placed in a program like Child care and Parent Center Brookman offers; the holistic development of the child by providing ideal conditions to nourish their abilities is offered in this program. Such programs are relevant in cases like the one provided because they simply make the ideal environment by placing the child into various conditions through playful activities. The degree of interaction which the child does with others is remarkable in the sense that parental involvement in the process is ensured. Various locations, other than the centre itself, are used...
