Assessment Details Background The mini research report provides a detailed description of a proposed research idea. It is similar to an essay and needs to be in a formal style with introduction, body and conclusion. In addition it requires a critical analysis and a coherent presentation. Requirements Each group is required to submit a mini research report (3000-3500 words excluding the title, abstract, table of contents and references/bibliography). The purpose of this task is to assist students to prepare and write a scholarly paper at an appropriate standard for this level of study. You have already done quite a bit of work for this research in tutorials: you should have a tentative research issue, strategies and evidence to persuade your readers about the significance of the problem you’re researching, as well as the validity of your research issues. You also should consider opposing views or good counter-arguments that you can address in order to help establish your credibility and enhance the relevance of your paper. A. Report Layout (20%) The mini research report must contain the following sections, submitted in the order as listed below-  Title Page – selection of an informative title  Abstract - summarization of the significant concepts in the study focusing on key aspects (major results and conclusions)  Table of Contents.  Introduction – outline of the thesis, problem, question, etc. (stating the thesis/theory in terms of relationship among variables and examining the problem or investigating the question, or the like) and preview of the structure of the paper.  Literature Review- demonstration of the ability to find significant sources, familiarity with the existing body of knowledge, analysis of existing research, and learning through a careful reading of existing scholarship. CRICOS Provider No. 00103D Assignment Proposal.docx Page 3 of 8  Methods (and Methodology)- procedures and processes undertaken in your investigation/study including the research design– study type, research question, hypotheses, variables, and data collection methods (as applicable).  Conclusion – briefly restate the research highlighting the implications of your research  References- include relevant literature sources (in-text citation and a list of full-text references)  Appendices (if applicable) - tables, graphs, charts or any other- related to the study not included in the main paper but referred to. Note: Students are required to follow the ‘General guide to referencing’ and ‘Guide to Writing and Study Skills’- specially the ‘Layout and Appearance’ and the ‘Report’ sections. http://federation.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0015/164121/FedUni-General-Guide-to-Referencing- 2014.pdf http://federation.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0018/190044/2014-General-Guide-to-Writing-and-Study- Skills.pdf [For distribution of marks, see the Marking Rubric at the end of this document] B. Reflective Journal (10%) You are required to produce a Reflective Journal (approximately 1000 words) that has been ongoing and progressive in terms of reporting ideas developed and other findings for the purposes of the research work. For this part of the assignment, write up a Reflective Journal of all work relating to your research topic and research idea as you have progressed through on a weekly basis, based on your weekly work/exercises in Part B of your Tutorial-Workshops from weeks 1-10.  A Reflective Journal is a tool that allows students to reflect on and write about their progress in their learning. They can identify and reflect on success and challenges. Its purpose is: o To record the development of your ideas and insights through the weekly exercises o To reflect on your own learning process o To analyze and discuss key issues covered by class work and/or readings  In other words, a Reflective Journal is a personal record of your progress and your developments in thinking about a subject or a topic. Although it’s a more informal style of writing than other academic assignments, you now need to submit it as regular entries developed over a period of time- from week 1 till week 10. Your reflective journal forms the basis of your research report.  Consider the following when writing a reflective journal: o Describe events and your experience on weekly basis (weeks 1-10 based on the Tutorial-Workshops Part B) – What did I do/hear/see? http://federation.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0015/164121/FedUni-General-Guide-to-Referencing-2014.pdf http://federation.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0015/164121/FedUni-General-Guide-to-Referencing-2014.pdf http://federation.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0018/190044/2014-General-Guide-to-Writing-and-Study-Skills.pdf http://federation.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0018/190044/2014-General-Guide-to-Writing-and-Study-Skills.pdf CRICOS Provider No. 00103D Assignment Proposal.docx Page 4 of 8 o Interpret and evaluate the events from your perspective – What do I think about it now? How does it relate to other things that I know? o Explain your experience- reveal your new insights, connections with other learning, your hypotheses, and your conclusions. o Have I changed how I think about the situation? How have I used these to help organize my writing?  Create individual weekly headings to reflect on and add a brief conclusion on the reflections at the end, all as suggested above. [Adapted from the following sources: Morley-Warner, T. (2000), Academic writing is: A guide to writing in a university context, Centre for Research and Education in the Arts, Sydney.] C – Ethics Application(10%) Include a fully completed ethics application in your submission. INTRODUCTION:
Research generally is a creative work undertaken in a systematic manner. It can also be defined as investigation of materials to gain some facts and results. In this assignment, three questions are given. For question one, we need to understand research process, ways of conducting research, select one area of IT in organizational context and discuss three factors that the question is asking. In question two we need to select the way for carrying out research data and information. Question three is a direct question where we need to identify variables, and justify hypothesis.
QUESTION ONE
The r
esearch topic selected for this project is ‘’Challenges to Information Security’’
Information today is not only personal information or organizational information; it’s a collection of world data in various fields which have a wide range. Safeguarding this information is a crucial task. However a deep research on this area and identifying problem statement with certainly help to maintain Information System and Information Security. Information has always been and will be valuable for all.
Australian government IS security policy framework has categorized major information assets as electronic data, ICT system, networks where information are stored, all documents and reports, all intellectual information owned by individual, and also physical item from which information can be gained like mobile, laptops etc. (Protectivesecurity.gov.au, 2016)
As per the world view of the researcher two different research methodologies are explored. One is quantitative and other is qualitative. In the qualitative method data are collected through participant observation and interviews whereas in quantitative they are collected through measuring things. (McLeod, 2016) Qualitative focuses on dynamic aspects whereas quantitative focus on fixed and measurable reality. In the context of ‘Information Security’ research area researcher following qualitative approach takes various view for same topic observed. They also focus that all areas observed are valid or not. Researcher focusing on quantitative approach will be looking more on data and facts.
For researching on Information Security, Qualitative method will help gather information on how data can be made secured and get a view from various groups and organisation. However as it a most talked issues in current days. So this method will be better looking at world view of researcher where they need to gather some conceptual facts and getting detail view to maintain information security. Working mostly on research through Qualitative approach for this topic is better as well as quantitative approach techniques like sample collection, observation and surveys are equally important. (Vanclay, 1991)
QUESTION 2
"Reactions of high school students to a new policy for a closed campus."
The main problem with this research technique is the way this hypothesis is carried out. Instead of selecting every fourth students, researcher need to select the student who are familiar with the topic and can provide their view, which could then give exact hypothesis result. (Explorable.com, 2016)
Technique Analysis
There is also a problem on techniques used for this research. The main problem on techniques of analysis used is the location used to carry out the research. As the researcher want to know students reactions to new policy on closed campus location must be on closed campus. For this research location chosen is near the office of dean which is not a best place to carry out research as per research question
QUESTION 3
Variables identified:
Dependent variables: They are the variables that experimenter measures and are usually the result from independent variables.
Self esteem
Academic achievements
Independent variables: A variable that the experimenter manipulates is independent variables. They generally changes or varies over the course of investigation.
After school program note memorization
After school program critical thinking skills
Research journal
The research questions can be made as:
Why social analytics is needed?
Why social analytics is a priority in a small and larger business?
What is reason of social impact on the business strategy ?
Week 3
In this week we understood the knowledge of statistical analysis for the performance of the business like mean ,median and mode so that the accuracy can be found with efficient way there are various tools for finding the statistical analysis like R tool.
And python tool which will be very helpful in finding the accuracy basically what we get to know in this week is that if in the data set which we have imported from the collection of data like the csv file and all we can find the null value or NAN value and then we can extract it using the statistical tool then using the median value and mean value we can remove the undefined values and NAN values
Week 4
Critical thinking is the objective analysis of facts to form a judgment. The subject is complex, and several different definitions exist, which generally include the rational, skeptical, unbiased analysis, or evaluation of factual evidence. This approach tends to acquire the knowledge of the business strategies and all so that the effective model can be made for it
